Acknowledgments

The Summum Producer of the Year grew up in Huatata, a truly unique area in Chinchero, Cusco, surrounded by a view of snow-capped mountains. For Manuel Choqque Bravo, a love for the earth runs in his family.

He experimented with fields that used different kinds of soil, different altitudes and hours of sunlight and cold, working tirelessly with his brother Elmer not only to help the potatoes to adapt, but to genetically improve them. The result is a remarkable repository of over 370 native varieties, along with other, modified species created through crossbreeding.
