Filomena Pinares has a dream, a dream that is within her grasp: to score over 86.25 points for a cup of her coffee, which grows in orderly fashion in the highlands of Echerate, one of fourteen districts in the province of La Convención, in Cusco. This complex area, which is located in the Apurímac, Ene, and Mantaro River Valley, stands out for its countless shades of green, its prosperous farming activity, and its microclimates, landscapes, and enterprise.

Forty-seven-year-old Filomena turned her back on growing illegal coca leaf crops and committed herself to coffee, which is part of her parents’ legacy and the object of her children’s love.
